Samsung and Hyundai are upgrading - as is everyone else - but the pace is too slow. Exactly how much is "a lot"? This equipment being ordered won't be used for volume production (I'm talking greater than 3m units/month) until late 99 at the earliest. By then total Bit demand will have jumped another 70-80% but supply will only grow by 50-60%. That is what causes silicon cycles and we are on an upleg. Competition is always fierce, but there are alot FEWER competitors this time. There is an undersupply of 0.25 micron capacity out there. Nothing I have seen or read from anyone is yet to convince me otherwise. This thread has to realize that it is far different this time. The chip makers are not going to slash each others throats anymore. They have learned from their mistakes.

I'm hearing of teething problems with the latest ASM scanners (not steppers) and that the latest Nikon scanners are superior. Any thoughts?
