<I wonder how big the Dixon is with cache double the size of the Celeron. Bigger processor, more power required?>

I would guess that because the Pentium II PE doesn't require off-chip L2 cache running at high speeds (relative to the processor bus), the overall power consumption would be lower, allowing Intel to crank up the speed of the Pentium II PE to 366 MHz.

I'm pretty excited over the new Pentium II PE. Notebooks have been performance-challenged for a while compared to desktops. Now the performance gap between mobile and desktop has been cut significantly.

And yes, I do think the mobile AMD K6-3 will also be a very hot item.

Cringe - Re: " I wonder how big the Dixon is with cache double the size of the Celeron. Bigger processor, more power required?"

The DIXON replaces a Pentium II and 512 KiloBytes of separate SRAM.

The SRAM chips ran at 3.3 volts.

The DIXON runs at only 1.6 volts.

There is a NET POWER REDUCTION !

Couldn't you figure that out ?

Cringe - Re: "Just like Intel was late to the party with the notebook Celeron?"

Late to the party ?

Later than what ?

Later than AMD's integrated CPU plus on-chip cache?

Think, Cringe.

The Celeron in a notebook beats AMD's Sharpy chip by...well, you tell me when the Sharpy is going to ship.
