A fairly amusing analysis, but there are academics of stature who tend to be moderate or conservative, such as Stephen Ambrose, Milton Friedman, and Donald Kagan (I mention two historians and one economist).

BD- Examples of the thievery and corruption in the Reagan administration would be? How were they addressed? How do they compare to the criminal enterprise currently occupying the WH? JLA

What history will show is that the entitlements have been increasing at such levels through the 70's to the present to crowd out discretionary spending. At each increase in social insurance taxes, the Democrats have increased beneficiary classes to such levels that their targets for future solvency proved to be way too optimistic. Retirees are now down to about 70% of the outgo from the Social Security fund. SSDI is close to 30%. The demographic trends, the overstating of the CPI, the excessive increases in benefits by Congress in the 50's through the 70's, and the increase in the SSDI program have all contributed to this problem. The politicians want desperately to have funds for discretionary programs so they can claim credit for economic expansions and to buy votes from their constituencies.
