" The security features can be enabled or disabled. Intel is providing secure enhancements that a user can choose to use or to ignore. Your problem is that Intel may potentially set such a unique standard for secure data transmission that, if successful, AMD will be locked out of another market - or at least be set back by another year or more. Scumbria, McMannis, re: Intel ID Lot's of questions around this implementation. IE:, what happens when you decide to sell or give away your PC? (Many people give their old PC's to a relative or donate them to charity when they upgrade). One solution is to license and title PC's when purchased. This would insure that on transfer of title the old owner would not be liable for the actions of the new purchaser. The DMV could set up a separate division, DPC, (Department of PC's). When purchased the seller would create a title and registration that would be sent to the DPC. At the time of resale the owner would sign the title over to the new purchaser. Each State would need to implement this to handle interstate transfers. Of course there would need to be a tax on the sale and registration of PC's to fund the new Department. Retailers would be required to collect taxes on the original sale and the DPC would send out an annual tax bill thereafter. Probably need a sticker to attach to the PC with the PCID and State registration number. And consumer activist groups can get involved. For example, MADD could create a MAAB affiliate, (Mothers Against Addictive Browsing). (Bet we know who's mom would be a charter member). Seriously, though, I wonder if this was thoroughly thought out. Over the years I've owned six Intel PC's. I gave the old one to a family member each time I upgraded. Not sure I would do that any more. While I'm not clear as to the real implications of Intel's new initiative, my inclination would be to purchase AMD the next time. Be interesting to see how this all develops.
