<< I really wish the WIN98 was capable of handling more IRQs (a new buzzword for me) than the paltry 15 it can handle now >>

Actually, it's not Microsoft's fault you only have 15 IRQ's. It's probably Intel's or IBM's (I'm sure I'll be corrected...so please be nice).

You really have 16 IRQ's. They start with 0. The industry is trying ways of getting around this barrier with USB (Universal Serial Bus).

With a little expert tweaking, you should be able to free up a few IRQ's that are assigned, but not being used. An easy one is: If you have a PS/2 mouse (round connector) and your modem is on COM2 then go into bios and disable COM1 (or the other way around if you modem is on COM1). Ta da....an IRQ is now free.

Concerning your DVD -- I have a computer hooked up to my TV in the living room with a Creative Labs DVD player. It has a SVHS output but it came with an adapter cable that converts it to composite video (RCA Jack -- like the video in on you TV/VCR/Stereo).

Hope this helps...

If you cannot get around the slot problem, you should be able to buy a card for much less than 800 bucks. I believe I have seen the Appian Duet card for around $400 bucks. If you shop the net you might be able to do better...

Good luck,
John

From what I gather now, it will cost me another $800 bucks to get a card that will allow me to get this new PC of mine rigged for 2 monitors. Basically, I think I would have to take out the nice video card I have in there to replace it with one that has 2 ports.

Only if you have no spare AGP or PCI slots. If you currently have an AGP card and you have an empty PCI slot you can buy a cheapie PCI video card, drop it in, install the drivers, tell windows to extend your desktop, and voila!

Caveat: I haven't done this myself. I have a 19" hi-res monitor so I haven't really needed more screen real estate.
