I think Craig Barrett or Paul Otellini mentioned this once, that Intel will try and extend the lifetime of a chipset or platform. This may be better news to OEM's than to consumers, since OEM's are the ones who have to design around Intel's chipsets.

However, for consumers, I can't say that the rate of new technologies being introduced will slow down any time soon, unless they start voting with their wallets and avoiding the bleeding edge.
