BK is a myth and Clinton/Greenspan/Rubin want to keep it that way. I have another theory ... (ok, great thinker, I'm not, but here goes)

Whole social security biz, funds going into the stock market was a way for these guys to set up a good cop/bad cop routine and knock the market for a "little" loop with out busting it down. After all, the direct approach, i.e. "irrational exhuberance" speeches, doesn't work.
These guys like the wealth effect and they don't want to kill it, but they don't want the bubble to grow even more ...

I think a lot could be gleaned by collecting the news releases from week to week. One week Rivlin is doing the "irrational exhuberance" thing. The next we have Brazil blown up and then solved (not in actuality, but according to the spin). I really think these guys are no dummies and would like to work the market into a sideways range or slightly downtrending in order to prevent a melt-down and the economic consequences.
