Hi Check,

Well ELH blew out of control 2 months ago today !! This is not a very happy anniversary. :-( :-( :-(

Per Bob Christie's article which I copy below from www.bakersfield.com they didn't get a surface kill yesterday. And, I'll now bet that they won't get one. Hope I'm wrong cause they must be bumping up against their insurance cap and I'll venture a guess that they're at least 3 weeks away from any downhole kill.

Later,

Spewing well again stymies control efforts
January 22, 1999

LOST HILLS — Attempts by well-control specialists to stop the flow of natural gas and water from a blown-out well near here failed again Friday.

Experts from Halliburton Co. and Boots & Coots International Well Control tried to stop the massive flow using fluids pumped into the well bore. The crews tried similar procedures last week, but all also were unsuccessful.

The well blew out and caught fire Nov. 23, and burned a huge volume of nearly pure natural gas for two weeks before it began producing so much water that the flame died.

A new well head was installed and the water and gas diverted into a separation system. The natural gas is being flared off in a burn pit, and about half of the produced water is being piped into the gas flare to dispose of it. The remainder is trucked off for disposal.

A relief well also is being drilled in the event above-ground efforts to "kill" the well do not succeed.

Another effort at stopping the flow from above ground will be made next week, sources said.
