Arrow- long term, this pullback looks good to me.

By pre-announcing their small "surprise", Company shows me they are gonna be straight with the analysts. Also that they want to relieve the recent price run, perhaps for a reason everyone else is speculating on, maybe not. (I say two fivers equals a ten spot.)

I read the earnings report as pretty good for management and strategic planning- they are NOT saying the world economy is A-OK. They ARE saying that despite declines in hardware and chips, the transition to services and software has diversified the company to a state where it is profitable even in turbulent times.

Looking at big iron sales as bait for the services sector, things look fine to me. The pre earnings run-up was overdone, the pullback looks like a decent time to buy. I have plenty of equity in IBM so am not looking to add, but see no reason to sell. Semiconductors-- I never understood how that sector worked anyhow...

I don't see how anyone can be disappointed with these earnings. Most companies don't even earn this kind of money, even quarter to quarter increases, in their wet dreams. Bottom line, this company is still the best technology company in the world. It gets more patents each year than any other company. It has the biggest companies in the world as clients. It has a dominant position in electronic commerce. It goes on and on. This is an irrational reaction in the market today.

These opportunities to buy IBM don't come around that often. I've made more in the options than the stock. I doubled my money in the 120 calls before I sold. I took out my investment and rolled up to the longer term leaps at higher strike points. I have doubled my money again on those profits in the 130 leaps. I have a 50% profit in the 160 leaps when I bought on another dip. These profits are both after the decline today. I bought more of the 170 leaps today and fully expect to make as much on them as well. It is like swimming with the current.
