IMO, relationally, if every business of size is forced to adopt these proposed accounting changes, the net net is that by affecting every business, it affects no business. Other similar accounting change adoptions that were required, were anticipated to have some impact on EPS and the related value per share of a company, and had no affect at all were the recent requirement of treating all stock options as if they had been converted into outstanding shares as of the reporting date and adding that to the issued and outstanding amounts of common stock. It affected everyone and as a result, affected no one. The values of the companies suffered no detrimental dimunition for any more than the briefest period. The same was true with the accounting requirement to disclose unfunded and underfunded pension liabilities. That requirement affected everyone and as a result, affected no one, but for the briefest period of time when net net, everyone figured out that the relational aspects of these changes imacted everyone, and as a result, affected no one.

While accounting changes can be difficult to understand as well as translate into how they will influence our own investment analysis, if everyone is required to adopt the change, it affects no one IMHO.
