Sure, if E*Trade were the only on-line broker who was having problems, you'd eventually be right--folks would leave and it would show up in their earnings down the road. However, the Gomez post clearly states that ALL of the on-line brokers are having problems, so it's not at all specific to E*Trade, leaving one with the choice of using an on-line broker with problems or going back to Merrill Lynch. Most folks will stay where they're at, just as they stayed with AOL through their growing pains.

And frankly, if you have 5 different on-line brokers and E*Trade is the worst, as you say, then why stay? Hell, life's too short to torture yourself.
