The Campaign Finance Angle

My point was that you singled this congress out as bought and paid for by corporations and rich individuals.

I singled out the GOP Congress because they impeached the president. The president's guilt or innocence in campaign finance matters is immaterial to the question of whether the Congressional Republicans are hypocrites. Two wrongs do not make a right.

...the biggest money goes to the executive branch, not the legislative branch.

That may or may not be true. Got any proof? I checked the non-partisan Federal Election Commission web site at fec.gov, but I could not find a direct comparison of Clinton's fund-raising versus the Congressional Republicans' fund-raising. Please let us know if you find such a breakdown of the data, or crunch the numbers yourself.

I did find the following (http://www.fec.gov/press/ptypre98.htm) to back up my claim:

October 27, 1998 WASHINGTON Pre-election reports filed by the national committees of both major political parties show Republicans continue to hold a 73% fundraising lead over Democrats.

The missing piece of the "bought and paid for" puzzle is whether contributions correlate with votes for specific legislation. The 1996-1997 GOP House invited industry lobbyists to write their own legislation. That's not legal proof of dollars buying votes, but it's good enough for me.

The Riadys and the like own Clinton.

That's another vague and unproven accusation. For the sake of argument, let's assume Clinton did knowingly accept illegal foreign contributions and provided specific policy favors in return. If so, the GOP Congress should go after Clinton for that. If he's guilty, then why does the GOP bother with the relatively trivial Monica Lewinsky sex & lies allegations unless their real motive is to "get" Clinton by whatever means necessary?

The GOP has systematically blocked or delayed confirmation of almost every Clinton federal appointee and recently upped the ante by impeaching Clinton, and now they have the gall to accuse Clinton's Democratic supporters of being partisan. That's either hypocrisy or stupidity. Take your pick.
