What you are saying is conceivable, however, there is no evidence to support it at this time. The other possibility is that there is what may be referred to as a blind pipe--ie. one that never quite made it to the surface as a full pipe. Perhaps in this case a partially blind pipe. 1000 meters below--who knows. That is what they will poke the drill at this winter from the ice.
