I agree with you. Dan Niles is one of the biggest idiots around. I lost a bundle in 94 following his advice on Micron. I remember having converstaions with his staff back in 94, and they claimed all my concerns with respect to Micron (falling DRAM prices etc) were priced in the stock when it was in the 90s. He was hyping up the stock with target in the 120s. Only it dropped to the 20s.

He was at it again hyping up Micron with target of 200 giving some bullshit argument. SUN may be overvalued for a number of reasons, but not becuase Niles says so. By saying that orders and backlog is weak, he is contradicting the CFO who expects revenue growth to accelerate.

And why downgrade to LT attractive. If he can foresee problems, go out on the limb and say neutral (or if he has the balls - outright sell). Dan Niles is one asshole who really ticks me off.

What's the deal with Sun's backlog? In press releases yesterday some analyst, maybe a first boston guy, is saying how backlog is increasing and/or looks real good and now the robbie-stephens guy is saying how backlog is declining. Do they have different info, or just a different way of interpreting the same numbers?

Andy

Dear Xy: - Niles said that Sun's backlog of orders also dropped nine percent sequentially.

WANNA BET. I bet IF the system shows a drop in the backlog its only because the SYSTEM is behind in recording it. The CFO himself a person known to be conservative says the OPPOSITE OF THIS GUY. There oughtta be a law!!! JDN
