Abby continued........Great outlook for 1999 & 2000.

''Keep in mind that we always try to make a target that is easily achieved as opposed to something you have to reach for,'' Cohen said.

Goldman's Cohen still sees Dow at 9,850 in 1999

CHICAGO, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Abby Joseph Cohen, Goldman Sachs & Co's managing director, on Friday called ''easily achieved'' her November 1998 predictions of the Dow 30 Industrial Average at 9,850 and the Standard & Poor's 500 index at 1,275-1,300 during 1999.

Cohen made her remarks at an Executive's Club of Chicago luncheon here.

''Keep in mind that we always try to make a target that is easily achieved as opposed to something you have to reach for,'' Cohen said.

She noted that Goldman usually revises its November forecasts in March and that it had revised last March its 1998 Dow forecast to 9,300 from 8,700.

Cohen reiterated that she was positive on the outlook for U.S. corporate profit growth and stock prices through the end of the year 2000, a view that she said should be reflected in the March 1999 revised forecasts.
