They're going to wind up in that direction (down) today, for sure!

BTW I'll say it. I think the new design, both aesthetically and functionally sucks!

WebDrone,

Whenever a new technology gets implemented, many people aren't happy. USB and Firewire are two technologies which were due and about time. Once again, it took a company with guts such as Apple to initiate people to new technologies. Even wintel PCs now come standard with USB and it probably won't be long before Firewire gets put on the motherboards too. How much longer are wintel PCs going to carry the burden of centronics ports? Also, back a couple of years ago, everyone wanted Apple to lower their prices to be competitive with wintels. SCSI, for most people was something they felt they didn't need ( I disagree) and added costs to the machine. Today, we have a Mac which competes very well in price with wintels, has more advanced options as standard and can be upgraded with SCSI or anything else you want. It certainly isn't Apple's monopoly which has made many camera companies adopt Firewire just plain common sense IMHO. Would it have been better to have a serial or centronics port? Plus Firewire costs less than SCSI and is faster than these two (serial, parallel) prehistoric interfaces.
