Yeah Right. Just like Windows NT killed Sun. Just like Microsoft Bob(TM) made computers easy to use. Microsoft haven't the first clue what it takes to do a the kind of hard real-time embedded systems you can do with VxWorks. And hard doesn't mean difficult, it means interrupt latency. Unless they rewrote Windows from the ground up. Again.

JMHO.

P.

The fundamental issue that has money managers like myself concerned outside of the usual Asian horrors or extended stock prices, is the advent and increasing tenacity of WinCE into the company's bread and butter. Now I know this has been fully discounted by this thread, but this thread doesn't know what is going on wrt the next generation of WinCE which MSFT is promising will be a VxWorks killer.

I hope that you do not go by the moniker of ahhaha to your clients...

With regard to WIN CE it would be instructive for you to read the various posts on this thread from embedded software engineers and those that attended the most recent embedded system conferences. Unless MSFT is buying the technology from those that have a real RTOS, it is my understanding that MSFT has a long way to go to make WIN CE into a REAL-TIME Operating System.

Only time will tell, meanwhile, Vx Works expands its markets...

ahhaha:

I'd like to talk to you about managing my portfolio. I always feel more comfortable keeping my money with someone who knows EXACTLY which way the market is headed. Even if they're smug about it.

Re eCOS: Please enlighten us.

I don't think that anyone here has discounted WinCE.
However, Mike K. of Credit Suisse indeed discounted it when he
issued a SBUY earlier this year. Since he's a foremost
analyst on both MSFT and WIND, his opinion is noteworthy.
Read his analysis if you havent already.

And with respect to your "VxWorks killer", I'm sure you'd like to enlighten us?

I hope WIND bounces cause I bought a few shares today. Noticed it is in the WIRED Index.

I'd like to invest in a mutual fund that does nothing but invest in companies that try to knock MSFT off it's high horse, even though I do use MSN... I hated AOL. I wouldn't be suprised if new operating system from Red Hat or Linux designers with free source code hurts MSFT big time soon. Even an 800 lb gorilla can be in danger of becoming extinct.

Sony Corp. - SNE is a 800 lb gorilla and a overlooked internet play, especially next year when the Playstation 2 replaces the WEB TV and the PC and all the internet / walkman / PC / TV / stereo / camera / holograffic / IMAX / expresso devices come out, and when the Victoria Secret movie / video / DVD / game comes out.

Wouldn't be suprised if a new device by SNE or SGI or INTC or AAPL take a large percentage of the market away from DELL, CPQ, and the other box makers who don't do anything but plug a couple boards in place and charge you double.
