El, thanks. Just suffered a flashback there. Nothing a few chilly cylinders won't cure. According to my calculations, next Friday would be too late to put earnings in a negative light. Kind of funny, I have always been very high on management, but I actually got scared for a minute there that a curve ball was coming. Robbie

Without major currency junk over the weekend: 1) CPQ will gain nicely on Monday 2) CPQ will gain on Tuesday in anticpation of earnings 3) CPQ should knock-the-socks-off on Wednesday with earnings of .42-.45 4) CPQ could get a BIG boostier on Friday if Internet deal and strategy is real positive. Here, I believe EP has a MAJOR focus and wants to make the Internet work BIG-TIME for CPQ. Michael P.S. - Still desire a SERVICES knock-out too !

El, Right. Even though the most well planned deals of this magnitude have some last minute details to finalize...especially when you are shooting for completion by some arbitrary due date. (Look at the fools in the NBA. They are still trying to finish what they claimed to have completed over a week+ ago.) But I believe this was all intnetially timed...even to the point to delaying their normal earnings release schedule. One thing we can count on is it will be significant. EP has been making too many references, as vague as they have been, about the tremendous magnitude of their future that they intend to devote to the Internet. f

Elwood: You are correct. There were a number of false assumptions in the previous posts. There is no statement out there that the Time Warner deal will be announced on Friday of next week. If the deal is made, it can be announced whenever (for example the same day as earnings). The Friday meeting with analysts is not exclusively about CPQ and the internet. It is about CPQ business in general. The presumption is that CPQ would like to have the deal settled by then to explain it to analysts.

El, I found some interesting things while looking at the registered domains for CPQ over at Company Sleuth. First, all the domains that had "Dell" in them last month are gone. Second, I noticed that three of the domains were recently obtained: futureio.net 7 Dec '98 futureio.com 17 Dec. '98 futureio.org 20 Jan. '99 I find it real interesting that CPQ would register three domain zones for futureio. For futureio.org as well as futureio.com I get a page for: Compaq, Hewlett Packard, IBM, and Adaptec Form an Alliance to Define I/O Standard. Conference scheduled for February 11-12, 1999, in Monterey, CA. futureio.net just yields one of those "this has been reserved" pages.
