A response to me from yahoo NOVL thread on Digital Me. I'm very interested on how soon this program (product) will get going, and how important it will be in terms of a new and expanding revenue stream.

Toy did you get any sense on how soon this would be getting out? How is Red Spread doing with ISP's. TIA, QuadK

I assume the "Digital Me" you talk about is the web personna concept that Schmidt has often referred to, being able to be uniquely identified in the internet ether.

MY understanding of this concept is that it will be capable of storing a lot more than a user's identity, i.e. preferences, settings, on and on, which will be as useful as the site utilizing the service wants to make it. Of course NDS stores this information beautifully.

Concerning the chip ID, I understand the this will be per machine or CPU. This means the machine is identified exactly but not necessarily the user. This means a site relying on the chip ID for user identity may make wrong assumptions for one machine, multi-user situations and will also not immediately correlate the one user, many computers situation. With the "Digital Me" idea a user's identity is the same regardless of which computer he is on.

I see coexistence here, with different problems being solved, with just a little overlap with the user identification challenge, which is handled best with the "Digital Me" idea.
