John, I just got back from Beijing last week. I went into maybe a dozen or so major stores that sold consumer electronics and/or computer hardware and software. In no case did the salesperson ever refer to chao ji VCD, only super VCD. As an aside to your question, many individuals, mostly younger consumers, told me that the recommendations of the sales person was quite important in the purchase decision. Every, and I repeat every, salesperson told me that the C-Cube logo meant the highest quality. They didn't necessarily know who C-Cube was, if fact two different salesmen told me the C-Cube logo was Philips!, but nevertheless it produced the highest quality picture. On the downside, Shinco is the heaviest advertiser which is very obvious just from the billboards walking around Beijing, so in some cases the salesperson said that size/image overcame the poorer picture quality. But I came away feeling that Cube's OEM's have done a good job of marketing the Cube quality and that they need the Cube logo to compete effectively against Shinco. If you want more info about my impressions, just ask.
