If there are approximately 48 5-day work weeks in a year, then Compaq's 50,000 units in
1983 represents
208 units/day.

Now with 50,000 units/day, Compaq enjoys a 23,938% growth rate in unit manufacturing
over 15 years, or
1,595% p.a.

CPQ runs their lines 24/7. assembly works 3 12hr shifts with required overtime every
other weekend or more if you want. lines are rarely shut down. mainly only for re-tooling.
manufacturing lines are beautiful, very effiecient and enviromentally friendly. workers are
treated well and have a lot of the same "on campus" benefits i.e. health club, eating
facilities, etc., that the CEO and VP's have. (unlike MSFT and other companies.)

just thought you might like to know. i enjoy your posts, keep it up. i've been busy lately. i
bought a new presario 5660 with lots of goodies on it. i couldn't wait til march for the new
katmai version. ordered online and it was here in 1 1/2 days. great huh? i think we are
going to roll out some kind of internet ready set top type boxes. look for the announce
next week. lots of good stuff in the works. E.P. sent employees an e-mail that said CPQ
customer satisfaction rating is up. they are pretty pumped about it as this was a priority
goal. things are getting better. service revenues are up considerably in the Q4. should be
great earnings release. L8R, she
