It is vital for Tellabs to buy or develop optical add drop and cross connect technology as fast as its rivals. But Tellabs commands excellent optical resources under Ravi Ramaswami and Paul Green, formerly of IBM, where they launched the first successful WDM products (Muxmasters using 24 lambdas and gaining a total of some $200 million in sales for IBM). I believe, however, that Tellabs blundered in its failure to purchase Ciena.
