I agree. He could have simply threatened to veto all of the spending bills passed by the Democrats. But did he? Of course, he didn't! Instead, he cozily settled down into a "you scratch my back; I'll scratch yours" agreement with the liberal Democrats.

I am amazed to see so many Republicans heaping praises on him for being a "great President".

pezz, and Clinton didn't think we could balance the budget until 2005 or later remember? How about those demagoging clips in 94. If we tried to balance the budget before 10 years we would starve children. Well, Bill figured out how to feed one child in the Oval office huh! :-)

It's a darn good thing the Republican congress came along when it did. Dragging Bill and company along for the balanced budget ride has been the best thing to happen in thirty years inside the beltway.

Why stop here though, let's go for an amendment to the constitution requiring a 2/3 majority to go into the red again. Heck, while we are at it, why don't we get rid of the ridiculous way we compute future expenditures and take Social Security off budget once and for all?

Naaah, can't push those liberal too fast. They might whine to the press about starving children again, and claim the ederly are about to be tossed out in the streets. Those eeevil Republicans forcing a balanced budget on Bill Clinton and not saddling the children with mountains of more debt.

And what happened to all the debt we were supposed to pile up by cutting capital gains taxes? Another liberal economic myth laid to rest.

Of course they will look for every reason under to not challenge their assumptions and understand that cutting taxes actually spurs economic activity and creates more revenue to the government. You can lead a horse to water, but....:-)
