My wife (who up until now hated AAPL) was impressed with the new iMac ad (she's a rainbow...) and laughed at the obvious send-up of MSFT's "Start Me Up". She likes the look...and is suddenly interested.
Seems like Jobs struck a nerve.

Actually, the point I'm trying to make is that "cheap Wintel junk" (We don't know if eMachines makes junk, they haven't been reviewed.) threatens all PC makers (Apple included) that do not have a sufficiently high-end product to offset the declining margins of the low-end. Actually, Compaq does have server/workstations. Apple does not. Apple's "high-end" overlayed on the Wintel market is equivalent to a home gaming machine. That segment is still threatened by lowering margins going forward. Apple can successfully develop a niche in high quality home PCs with relatively high margins just as Dell is doing except Dells high-end branded workstation market is growing at 100% year over year - a market Apple doesn't have, making them somewhat more vulnerable.
