Gary, I don't think you can infer anything about channel inventory from the CRN article. About the only thing it says is IBM has doubled its server business through the channel, which I'm sure represents in some measure shifting from direct to indirect (channel). There's no information in the article to tell us the size or market share of their overall server revenue, nor how it performed revenue-wise year to year or quarter to quarter, or how much its revenues (shipments) matched up with channel sellthrough.

Gary, Don't you find it funny that IBM talks about servers, a very small business compared to desktops and notebooks? They may actually have been gaining market share there, or, more likely, some of what they are losing on work stations is trading down.

As far as learning lessons goes, what's the lessons. Compaq stuffed the channel last year, lied to everyone about it, had horrible eps because of it and was at a new high in time for last year's bonuses. They were not puninshed by the market last time, or at least not for long, so why worry?
