Alien,

First of all the word is LOSE not LOOSE.

You have to understand that the very mentality/emotion is exactly what those who have manipulated Vivus stock want you to think. There is still millions of dollars at stake on the short side not to knock the price back down each time it has gone up above 3. We now have seen this happen for the 6th straight time since vivus dropped under 3 for the first time last August.

If you think there has been no money to be made trading Vivus over the past 5 months you are dead wrong. Although there has not been much movement point wise, percentage wise a lot of money could have been made. And this could have been done without perfect timing by simply buying at 2 3/4 and selling and then going short at 3 1/8 and again covering and going long again at 2 3/4. We are talking about making 3/8 of a point each time or 13.6% on your money on each move up followed by 12% on each move down. If you played with only 10,000 shares trading this pattern you could have made 3/4 points on each of the past 6 waves which have now passed for a total of 4.5 points. On 10,000 shares that is a profit of $45,000 on an initial investment of $27,500.00. That is a profit of 164% over the past 5 months trading this very constant and predictable pattern.

So don't belly ache about not being able to make money on Vivus. Although I am losing my shirt on my core holding, I still am able to make some decent profits just staying with the 2.75 to 3.125 to 2.75 pattern. Sooner or later this pattern will have to break and I doubt it is going to be on the downside as the market makers gladly absorbed millions of shares at the 2.4375 to 2.6875 level during the all the tax loss selling during the last week of 1998 trading. We all know this stock ain't worth no sub $3.00 level so in the mean time I suggest if you want to mess with this stock just keep trading the pattern but just be ready to quickly cover your 3 1/8 short if you think that the stock is going to break out. In fact don't even short at 3 1/8 if you want to play it safe--just sell your long position and buy back when they pull her below 3.
