The Toronto Stock Exchange and the Ontario Securities Commission plan to unveil the final draft of their long-awaited Mining Standards Task Force report, prompted by a series of Canadian mining stock scandals including Bre-X Minerals and Cartaway Resources, on Tuesday. The regulators set up the task force in 1997, in a bid to develop new standards for exploration programs and disclosure of results. TSE media manager Steve Kee notes the final report contains recommendations "on a number of important changes designed to preserve Canada's position as a world leader in mineral exploration development and mining financing." The report will be released by task force co-chairmen John Carson of the TSE and Jack Geller of the OSC at a press conference attended by Chris Hodgson, Ontario's Minister of Northern Development and Mines.
