James, I know you are not a big fan of Greenie. But consider this.

We know there is a 4 year cycle in the markets. It has been around
for a long time.

So the Fed does not try to be too smart, it just acknowledges the
fact of the cycle.

Therefore, in 1997, in the irrational exuberance speach, he knows
we are due for the bottom - a sell off or whatever. So he tilts things down.

Then, once we make the bottom (or close enough), he realizes we have to shift sail to point to the next cycle top A juggling act, to be sure, but why complicate things when you don't have to.

This approach has worked for decades.

Jim and Vitas,

An increase in the cost of money now would most certainly cause the BIG BK! The SCY region we are in right now will not tolerate any further increases in interest rates (cost of money)!
