high-speed Internet access from work for over a year and a half and I don't
remember seeing 500KB/s access from any site. The best I usually get is a
short-term sustained rate of 150KB/s. Most servers are much less.


From what you described, I guess your company got T1 link.
Cable modem is capable of offering higher bandwith than
T1. And I often feel that.
