MG, I will take your gin & tonic infused messages over the iced tea variety of other folks any time!!!

Frankly, 1998 was a tough year to learn TA. I spent most of May and June reading books and drawing little lines on charts. I felt I really understood the long-term trading channels.

Then along came July and August and the lower trend lines were obliterated. Then along came November and December and the upper trend lines were obliterated. I'm sure I wasn't alone in my confusion.

The BAMBI experiment led me more into the world that I call CA -- Chart Analysis. This considers how the price and technical indicators relate to one another. However, I've come to appreciate that stocks are like individuals. While they may exhibit group tendencies, they have individual personalities. Thus, I'm trying to limit my universe to a small handful of stocks and learn their individual personalities.

Over the last several months, I've found that as long as I adhere to the proven approach, the system works. The experiment failures come when 1) I go try something different, and 2) I fail to adhere to the discipline. Patience has never been one of my most notable virtues. <g>

Last summer, I took a "student" under my wing. He had no previous market experience. Since October 21, his account is up 65%. As an engineer type, he has been able to follow the system better than I have done so. He has executed almost 100 trades with a trade profitability ratio of about 90%. Not bad for a someone just starting out. Sure wish someone had taken me under their wing 4 years ago when I started.

My problem is similar to yours. I feel like I'm moving battleships around in a bath tub. I can only focus on trading one account at a time. So I have to make position trades in the others. Sadly, I just cannot get out of position trades quickly enough when they move against me, and get to sit in the penalty box until the stock comes back. Nice thing about the Big Boyz is that one can have a high degree of confidence that this will not take too long. I hope to get this problem somehow resolved in 1999.

FWIW, a trading range works for my belief that the Big Boyz will return to their historical trading channels. However, it would take a long sideways move for them to do that.

I think I'll bid four clubs? Need to know where those aces and kings are hiding.
