Peter Stone (the guy who wrote "Titanic") also wrote another popular book some years ago called 1776. The play was an enormous success. I am excerpting some lines that seem to respond to your post and sum up well our present conservatives. Conservatives: To the right ever to the right never to the left forever to the right where there's gold a market that will hold tradition that is old a reluctance to be bold. And... Why begin? Till we know that we can win. And if we cannot win, why bother to begin? The impeachment and trial of Clinton is the one time since the '94 election that the majority Republicans have went counter to the above. Bravo.
