I suspect much of editor's information is quite old. There have been quarterly financial summaries (10Q's) since. The editor quoted from the period ending in June '98 that was published in August. The article itself was probably written a long time ago. Someone I spoke with remembered when Barrons released an issue with a big bear on the front page and reported how bad things were. It apparently turned out to be the best time to have been buying.
