Wisely used human brain power is the main asset of any company. Cisco hires from the top 10 per cent of graduates and engages them actively in productive work that can't be done cheaper elsewhere. They reward success and shuffle off the real losers (unlike Intel that fires the second place winners and worse). Cisco uses to web to sell their junk, and doesn't waste human time or money doing what can be done for next to nothing. I send my few very best students to Cisco, I can't even find Lucent's employment office. And besides, many years ago (BellLabsMH), messed up a great CS student of mine. BellLabs has spoofed patents. Sure they're getting better, but they have a way to go. Cisco is the best business model, the best management in the business. Not the best R&D or axes, but in the long-run they'll buy the best and customers know they're running with a winner and not "we don't have to, we're the telephone company -- a bloody bar ring Lucent.' (just kdding about LU, a really good, badly overpriced, second-rater).
