Len: Good points. Your point about "day" trading is especially accurate. I prefer to break day trading into two categories:

1) Scalp Trading
2) Intraday/Interday trading or position/swing trading

The truest form of day trading comes from #1 above but requires constant attention, and focus on the screen at all times.

#2 presents the best of both worlds and there are a thousand different disciplines and approaches to making it work for you.

Goals, goals, goals ...... I cannot reiterate that enough. Next to discipline, these two items will determine your ultimate success or failure ... even without any DD.

And as Len says here, finding a stock and playing its peaks and valleys is a very lucrative tactic. I have about 5-10 issues that I feel I can trade at just about any time should nothing be on the move. Get to know a few issues like these and learn their patterns.

Trade well.

TJ

Your thoughts are more than welcome by the residents
of this here thread..We are traders and investors at the same
time. We have stocks that we hold long term (investor) and stocks
that we trade daily, weekly or what ever.(trader) When an opp. comes
along to day trade some of us will take advantage of that. We share
what we learn, we feel for each other. Glad to hear your thoughts..
Undervalued stocks with peaks and valleys,,,,,great, bring them on
with your thoughts on them.....
Day trading is not for everyone but investing can be..
Since you travel a lot and your business is in the semiconductors,
I would like your long term thoughts on Artisan components NAS ARTI...
Turn a round sector..
Thanks
Banchee

Len and all:

Thanks for the words. I have appreciated the thoughts of TJ, MikeM., Triffin, Poet, Banchee, yourself and many others (yes, Snerd...you too;)). As a newbie who started in stocks(long)just as the market turned, I have experienced a lot of the volatility the market has to offer. I must say, I was totally unprepared for the severity of the downturn and failed to take appropriate precautions (how about stop losses). As a result, I managed to loose just shy of 1/2 of our capital. Because of this thread and the honesty of the people on it as well as the more experienced members willingness to help, I have learned ten-fold what I would have on my own and have recouped..almost.. all of my losses in just 2 months.

The generosity of the people who post on this thread has been invaluable to my education into the world of trading. I look forward to each day when I can check into SI and find out "what's happenin'" here. I hope that one day I will be able able to help others as you all have helped me.

Thank you all...MMK

A public "Thanks" to Tony B. for assisting me through PM on getting the "bugs' worked out of my new computer.

BTW- love the humor here too. Always brings a smile to my face and often bursts of hysterical laughing... Keep up the good everyone:))))
