Covad installed a 144kbps DSL line for us today -
A couple of sharp installers punched down the Pac Bell circuit that was left hanging in the phone closet by Pac Bell on our 66 punch downs to our office, then installed a wallmount Flowpoint router right next to the ADTRAN ISDN (Pac Bell ISDN BRI) NT1 that it will replace along with the Livingston BRI router. No change in speed but big big discount in cost because the DSL is flat rate and the ISDN BRI is metered (both channels). The other end of the DSL is a Pulsecom box located in an 8x8 foot cage next to the Pac Bell wire center. The router there connects to the ISP via private line. The DSL circuit is always on 24 hours a day including Sundays (we had to shut down the ISDN for Sundays to keep meter expenses down.) No reason why Pac Bell could not have done the same thing other than to try to protect a very rich revenue stream. The termites are eating away?
