AT&T wouldnt be "selling" worldnet. It comes a lot closer to a reorganization than selling. ATHM is being treated in some form as a loosly connected division of AT&T. One of my worries in the T takeover was whether AT&T might sidestep ATHM by expanding Worldnet into broadband. That fear is put to rest now in my mind.
Maybe the Worldnet ISP would be treated to a similar valuation formula as Earthlink and Mindspring. After all it is worth many many times those and they have market caps of 2 & $2.5 Billion. This would be good for all shareholders, including T.
I assume the extra stock will also help T maintain control over ATHM from the dilution of the Excite and future mergers.
I am more hyped than ever about the potential of @home. @home is clearly being organized to be one of the major powerhouses on the internet. We are starting to form a situation similar to the current networks of ABC NBC and CBS with YHOO(+MSFT?), AOL, & ATHM. I can easily imagine someday the televison networks being purchased by the powerhouses of the new broadcast medium.
