Sen Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, asked Chief Justice William H Rehnquist to block the interview. [ Harkin's letter to Rehnquist said, ''such questioning would violate the Senate's sole authority under ... the Constitution to try impeachments'' because Senate trial rules require witnesses to be interviewed with both sides present, The Associated Press reported. Dan- Really nice article about Lindsey Graham's home district. "The regional economy is as good as we can remember in our lifetimes," said Burrell Nelson, head of the Economic Development Alliance of Pickens County. Unemployment, at 2.8 percent, is far below the national average. Nelson said that a boom in metal-working, plastics and chemical industries means that just 1,500 people are without jobs in a county of 104,000. The region has also been inundated with retirement and vacation development, as well as new industrial parks and shopping malls. Used to be they gave a place like that a shipyard or airplane factory. I wonder how much of our prosperity of the 90's comes from beating swords into plowshares? nytimes.com Harvey P.S. Saw a neat PBS program on the Empire Builder. I despise Clinton because he is a spineless coward, unable to accept responsibility for his mistakes or admit them. I despise him because he broke his oath of office and because as an officer of the Court, he should have known better that to perpetrate the various frauds he has perpetrated in the Jones case, in front of the GJ, etc. The man has diminished the office as no other. He is a loser and it is my fondest hope that history will be as vicious with him as it has been to Nixon, another Presidential loser. JLA
