Paul Engel: The chip has an ID number that can be logged by a web site...the web site can sell the ID hits to a market research firm...the market research firm then has a comprehensive road map of that ID's internet habits...Now...why do this? And why should Intel work for market research firms when the consumer is their customer?

Engel: My three rules of internet posting are...no purposeful false information...no name calling...and no obscenities...so your unprofessional behaviour is astounding...

Engel: If you are as tough as you pretend to be...its Jan 30, corner of Shadowlawn and Peachtree, Atl, GA, 2:00 AM...

the new chip contains a unique serial ID and a random number generator

Paul, this ser no thing is way overblown. I know that mainframes have had SN features forever. Do the Unix vendors (SUN, HWP, etc.) have SNs available to software?

If INTC wants to grow into the large scale server arena, SNs seem essential, IMO. I see the SN as a way to break through some serious security and privacy issues that will be good for the industry and good for the user.
