O.T. - Feb. 1999 issue of Sci. American - "A Fractal Walk down Wall Street" by Benoit Mandelbrot is the cover story.

I was all excited about reading it. But, unfortunately, the guy is so incredibly smart that I didn't really get much out of the article.

One point he does make clear -- some of the underlying assumptions of Modern Portfolio Theory absolutely rule out the possibility of huge (quick) moves in markets (but, we already know that, after reading lots of articles about Long Term Capital Management).
