That is why they come up with the term x-dividend. After x-dividend date, the stock trades without the right to the divident because you wont exactly 'own' (it doesnt settle) before the dividend. If you looked at your account, your holding might say something like, with due bills.
I would speak to your broker and have them walk through the particulars of this trade. Some equities can be traded with same, next or two day settlementif desired.
