Thermal Medical Imaging Featured in NBC News Report; Spotlights Clinical Research at Miami's Mt. Sinai Medical Center PR Newswire Wednesday January 27 5:30am OGDEN, Utah, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Computerized Thermal Imaging, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: COII) (CTI), a leader in the development of medical thermal imaging, said today that its Thermal Medical Imaging, Inc. (TMI) subsidiary was recently featured by NBC News in a nationally televised report on new technologies for detecting cancer. The report has been aired in over a dozen major cities in the United States and Canada. The report spotlighted research by Dr. Lisa Esserman of the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Esserman is currently conducting clinical trials of TMI's proprietary breast imaging system to test the efficacy of the system in differentiating benign from malignant breast abnormalities with the intent of reducing the number of benign biopsies performed. Dr. Esserman said that the key to beating breast cancer is early detection and that the TMI system, when used in conjunction with a mammogram and clinical breast examination, could reduce unnecessary biopsies for many women. David A. Packer, president of both CTI and its TMI subsidiary, stated, "We are very encouraged by the unsolicited media interest we have received. It has generated a flood of calls to Mount Sinai from women who are interested in participating in the trial. We welcome all who would like to take part in this important research." Those interested in participating in the trial are encouraged to visit CTI's web site. It contains detailed information on patient enrollment criteria and how to contact not only Mount Sinai, but the other participating clinical locations as well. The TMI system uses a sophisticated heat sensitive camera to record an image of heat waves produced by breast tissue. This image is then processed by a proprietary computer algorithm that is designed to recognize and differentiate the distinct heat signatures of malignant and benign breast tumors. The procedure is painless and requires no exposure to radiation or breast compression. Computerized Thermal Imaging, Inc. develops and deploys thermal imaging and associated technologies for use in the enhancement of medical screening, diagnosis and patient management.
