Thanks for the reply Jenna. Btw, I've been keeping an informal spreadsheet of companies that have had good pre-earnings runs, and it seems like the 3 or 4 days just before the actual reporting date are the best moving days. (They often seem to come directly after a mini-correction, so timing seems very important to get the bulk of the move)

Lately, it's been important to be OUT of the stock before earnings or if it's a blowout (i.e. msft), no later than the opening bell the next day if I want to be sure to retain my gains.

So it would seem that the correct earnings date is not just the "holy grail", it's the ONLY grail. :^)
