OT-Baydog,
I strongly suggest Muir Woods National Park and Point Reyes National seashore. Make sure it's a nice sunny day or your views will be limited. Both are located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The wine country has it's appeal, but I'm not sure SoberDog will get the most out of this area.

For dining, Sausalito offers a spectacular view of SF from the north.

Enjoy your stay,
Michael

(OT)coach and big dog: you refer to the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito and up to Muir Woods which is a fabulous but short drive from the city. Big:You can also continue on to Pointe Reyes national seashore. (I'm not a Californian but I travel there to do wineries and vendage and daughter lives in Marin Co.: Sausalito)

You can also go to Napa if you like wines and ship some home and of course the food is incredible and some of the restaurants are the best in the world. From what you have indicated in the past, I think the Big Dog would prefer Tra Vigne as opposed to say French Laundry which is the hot restaurant of Napa.

If you want to be a tourist have dinner at Scomas or somewhere else down at Fisherman's Wharf & then off to Beach Blanket Bingo which has been running in SF since the Haight Ashbury days. Even long time residents who see it think it is a hoot. You can get in the spirit of the city and go to Shanghai 1930 (I think that is the name) where all the chinese waiters are in drag. Very posh looking with a big deal cigar place. At the opposite end of the spectrum would be Beppi de Bucco or some such name. The cabbie will probably know it or the concierge. Big Dog sized portions and the funniest interior you have ever seen. Have dinner in the Pope room. Totally Mob decor.

Moneypenny, longing to have an incredible risotto at Tra Vigne.
