GM May Be Interested in Buying Volvo, Newspaper Says
Stockholm, Jan. 22 -- General Motors Corp., the world's biggest carmaker, may be considering bidding for Volvo AB, pitting it against rival U.S. carmaker Ford Motor Co., which also has its eye on the Swedish maker of cars and trucks, a Swedish newspaper reported.

GM and Volvo refused to comment on the report in Dagens Industri. Both Ford, the world's second-biggest carmaker, and Fiat SpA, the No. 6 carmaker, have indicated their interest in buying all or part of the Swedish company -- which has a market capitalization of $12.7 billion. ''Whether it's true or not, if you're shopping your car business why not talk to everyone?'' said David Healy, auto analyst with Burnham Securities Inc.
