Well, I guess you mean it's redundant, a tithe being being ten per cent by definition. But somehow it seems reasonable to me to say it that way. I suppose I think the precise meaning of the word is probably not so commonly known that you could assume your meaning was clear if you just said, "I require a tithe."

According to Mosaic law, Aaron's direct descendants, the priests, were to receive 10% of the tithe that the Levites took in. Perhaps X saw Bob in that role. <g>
