MG, RE: Etrade option writing

>E*TRADE will allow naked CALL writing if you qualify

As far as I know ETrade does not allow anyone to write naked calls. Their highest level of options trading allows for naked put writing and some other index options stuff. I checked into this 6+ months ago.

Etrade's cash requirements for naked put writing is on there web site. It is a formula based on "buying power" which is around 40-50% of capital required to exercise. I try to avoid the 'buying power' game. I've not had good experience's with margin calls. They always happen at the worst time. <g>

>I write naked PUTs on E*TRADE all the time

Kool! Any particular strategy that have taken a liking too?

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

MG, RE: edreyfus and naked call writing

edreyfus.com

The short answer is that they do allow naked call writing thru a broker, but not via the web. If I ever do any call writing I want to do it online. Below is their full answer.

Thanks for the link,

Christopher

Online you can only write covered options against the underlying security
position and buy/sell options long. If you wish to write uncovered options
or do spreads and straddles, you need to go through a broker in our Trading
Department. Certain restrictions would also apply including: a $20,000
minimum account balance which must be maintained at all times, 50% of the
underlying value in equity option, 25% of the underlying value on index
options and the current premium value. For details on our policies
concerning spreads, writing uncovered options, etc. please call Gary Martino
at 1-800-421-8395, extension 9619.
