For me, Junk Mail gets trashed unopened, banner ads go unread, and unclicked.

Well sheesh Glen, the point I was trying to make a bunch of posts back (which is not an
amzn-only issue btw), is that passive advertising such as television ads are more effective
than direct mail. Internet tracking of banner ads is more like TV to me, very visual etc.
Direct mail is useless - and thats all you get with a database of sears credit card
customers. So, as far as Im concerned amzn's database is better than sears' database (but
not better than B&N-onlines db, if they have one).

Michelle,

As you can tell, I love debate and I can tell you do too. Actually, direct mail to ones existing cusotmers is far more effective. I own two retail jewelry stores and we obtain the best return per advertising dollar when we mail specific sales and promotions to those customers that have been pleased with shopping with us in the past. Direct mail to a geographic audience or an audience of a certain income is worthless. The flyers one receives in the newspapers are worthless to us. They get lost amongst themselves and non exisiting customers do not care.

btw make sure and bookmark: www.peta-online.org all you animal lovers out there.

Consider it done for me:-)
