George,

The early "Boink" days were fun, weren't they? :-)

But I disagree that some kind of "compromise" should be made on principle, to supposedly preserve "worthwhile GOP goals". They should be able to stand independently on their own!

Far be it from me to disparage anyone who makes a principled stand on any issue, whether or not I'm in agreement. I just think that in politics, in particular, one needs to pick and choose the battles to be fought and the playing field on which to fight them. The GOP made a bad choice here, IMO.

I'm not a passionate partisan on the impeachment issue and I comment from an objective viewpoint. Everyone pretty much agrees that Clinton won't be removed from office. Are Republican principles truly being served by dragging this affair on and on and committing political suicide in the process? The public knows Clinton is a sleazebag and a liar. They knew it when they voted for him. A large percentage of them don't want him removed from office. Perjury and obstruction of justice are indeed serious matters and if they had occurred under any circumstance other than in relation to a consensual sexual affair, he would be long gone.

Worthwhile GOP goals are being lost in this ongoing doomed impeachment process. Rightly or wrongly, moderates and swing voters perceive this as a political vendetta and RR sexual witch hunt rather than a principled stand.

I truly do admire the GOP for standing on principle, but I think they chose the wrong battle in the wrong venue and they will pay for it and that makes me sad.

Regards, JB
