don't you wish we had the kind of rigorous training for Christians that educated Jewish boys have in Talmudic study? The kind of study that keeps one from twisting the words around to use any which way

As far as I can see twisting the words around is the whole point. How nice it must be to adhere to a scripture so malleable that it can be invoked to justify almost any prejudice or action. Exclusion seems to be a major part of the Christian appeal, and a great deal of the satisfaction that Christians get from their faith seems to lie in the conviction that those who disagree with them will face an eternity of torture. I have heard Christians locked in bitter argument on the question of which day they ought to go to church on, with each side convinced that those on the other would be excluded from eventual salvation. At this level of pettiness anything is possible. It's like a private club that you don't have to be rich to join; a perfect vehicle for those who are convinced of their own superiority but who lack the capacity to prove it through any worldly accomplishment.
