t2, msft exudes consistency...in excellent products, marketing, earnings (and comments re earnings). if they said a year ago they split to keep price "affordable" for us commoners...bet that it is about to split again. there are a zillion (newcomers) net stock players and online traders who will buy more msft when stock price is split in half. again, not saying it makes sense, only what will happen.

i appreciate your earlier note re my 80% msft position. the other 20 is in dell. thing is i need this money for the college kids & have found that msft outperforms mut funds within 1 yr (or 6 month) timeframes year after year...feel like it has less vulnerability than most mut funds to market downturns. in keeping with my needs (safety/liquidity) I tend to agree that intc comes close to msft (particularly given less than stellar stock price performance after stellar earnings). thanks as always for your tips & guesses!!
